Frequently Asked Questions

What is a combi boiler?

Combi boilers, or Combination boilers, are the most popular type of boiler in the UK. They’re used by 74% of households.

They’re named ‘Combination’ because they combine a high-efficiency water heater and a central heating boiler all in one package.

Combi boilers are efficient and cost less in heating bills.

That’s because:

  • They only heat water when you need it, rather than storing hot water up
  • They’re small and compact, as they don’t use an external hot water tank
What is a system boiler?

System boilers heat your radiators directly and store hot water in a storage cylinder. They’re usually installed in an airing cupboard or garage. They heat a large volume of water and then store it until you use it. This means they’re less efficient than Combi boilers, which heat water only when you use it.

What is a filter?

A magnetic filter, which we’ll provide and install with most boilers. It’s fitted to the boiler on the return flow. This catches any debris from your system and stops it getting into your new boiler.

Will I receive a new heating control with my new boiler?

Yes, usually we will fit a new wireless programmable room stat with your new boiler but some client like to keep their old ones.

Who will be fitting my boiler?

Unlike online companies like Heatable or Boxt we don’t sub-contractor our work like some businesses do, we directly employee our engineers and they will be installing your gas boiler. Companies like Boxt & Heatable don’t employee any engineers they are just middlemen with a fancy website. Our engineers are also fully trained, which takes a minimum of 3 years, unlike some of the new businesses “one man band” on the road now who have just done the 6-month cut down version of the qualification, but with gas its not worth the risk to save a few hundred pounds trusting someone will very little experience as it just takes one mistake with gas.

What do I need to do before the installation?

All you need to do is provide access to the property and make sure any areas where we’ll be working are clear.  If there’s anything specific, we need from you in advance, we will discuss that with you before we even start the installation.

How long will it take?

Normally a combi boiler replacement will take just one day . Upgrading form, a standard boiler to a combi system could take 1.5 day. If you are upgrading your radiators or TRV’s for example that could also make the job longer, we would discuss this with you before we started the job.

Will you take away my old boiler and any rubbish from the job?

Yes we will take away your old boiler & any old pipework etc & safety dispose of it.

Will the engineer show me how to use my new system?

Yes, at the end the engineer will show you how to operate your new system. If you have any issue we are only a phone call away.

How do I keep my warranty valid?

Make sure you get your boiler serviced once a year to ensure your warranty stays valid. We can offer that service to you, just gives us a call 11 months after your boiler was installed.

Does The O’Neil Boiler Company offer home cover plans for my boiler and system?

Our sister company O’Neil Care offer cover plans to protect you from any unexpected costs. www.oneilcare.com
